Why Create a Communications Note?

Learn how Communications Notes centralize pharmacy interactions and provide traceable documentation across patients, providers, prescriptions, and orders.

Overview

Communications Notes provide a centralized, auditable record of all non-text communications entered into SiCompounding. Any communication note added anywhere in the system is automatically displayed under the Communications tab on the Dashboard, ensuring visibility, traceability, and compliance.


  1. Click the FileMaker Pro icon to open FileMaker.
  2. When FileMaker opens, locate the large menu bar on the left and select SiCompounding (near the top).
  3. In the main window, click the Pharmacy icon to open the Dashboard.
  4. At the top of the Dashboard, click the Communications button.

Accessing the Communications Window

  • The Pharmacy Communications window opens in list view.
  • Communications can be filtered by date using the calendar located in the center of the header.
  • All communication notes entered throughout the system appear here automatically.

Viewing and Managing Communication Notes

Each communication note displays the following metadata:

  • Created Date – the date the note was entered
  • Created Time – the exact time of entry
  • Created By – the user who entered the note

Export and Distribution Options

From the table icons, you may:

  • Print a communication note
  • Fax a communication note
  • Generate a PDF for records or sharing

Linked Context and Sidebar Details

When a communication note is selected, the sidebar displays relevant contextual information, which may include:

  • Patient Information
  • Physician Information
  • Prescription
  • Order
  • OOS Event (Out of Specification)

Black arrow buttons provide direct navigation to related records:

  • Patient Arrow
    Takes you directly to the same communication note stored under the patient’s profile.

  • Physician Arrow
    Directs you to the same communication note stored under the physician’s profile (when related to a prescription or patient they prescribe).

  • Prescription Arrow
    Opens the Prescription landing page linked to the communication note.

  • Order Number
    Displays the associated order number when applicable.


Reporting an OOS Event

  • Communication notes can reference Out of Specification (OOS) Events.
  • Click the OOS-XXXXXX number in the OOS Event area to:
